The In Tune Music Therapy program is utilized by Great Lakes Caring Hospice with our patients and families. Our Board Certified Music Therapists use both live and recorded music to help facilitate sessions in a patient centered and non-threatening way. This helps patients and families cope with the issues and challenges ranging from anticipatory grief through the end of life. Music Therapy can also be utilized by families when coping with the loss of their loved one after they have passed away.
Music has been shown to help alleviate pain and other chronic symptoms of terminal illnesses, promote memory recall, and invigorate patients who are suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. It enhances mood, encourages self-expression, and provides support, comfort and relaxation, while building a therapeutic relationship.
Our Music Therapists are trained to assist with the physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of the dying process, and research has shown that music is one of the last sounds a patient registers before their transition.
