Great Lakes Caring to Add Over 300 Jobs in Midwest and Expand Service Area

Announces Record-Breaking Fourth-Quarter Admissions

Great Lakes Caring Chief Executive Officer William Deary announced today that the company will be adding over 300 home health and hospice care positions in 2012—225 in Michigan, and 100 in Indiana and Ohio.

Hiring for clinical and administrative positions began in January for two new home health offices located in Macomb and Oakland counties in Michigan and three new home health and hospice offices in Terre Haute and northern Indiana and eastern Ohio.  Between January and April of 2012, over 160 employees have been hired already by Great Lakes Caring, exceeding year-to-date expectations by 60 percent.

“As of January first of this year, each day over 8,000 baby boomers turn 65 and become eligible for Medicare home health and hospice services.  The more than 300 jobs we will fill represent an economic investment by our company of over $21 million in wages, benefits, local taxes and infrastructure in 2012,” said Deary.

Currently, Great Lakes Caring employs over 1100 people in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.  Since 2006, its geographical coverage area has grown more than five times while the employee base has more than tripled, with the addition of seven offices in the Great Lakes Region.  It services a total of 71 counties: 38 in Michigan; 31 in Indiana; and nine in Ohio.

“Following an industry downturn in the second quarter of 2011 related to Medicare regulatory changes, we were able to post a 21 percent increase in our fourth-quarter admissions,” said Deary.  He attributes this substantial growth to Great Lakes Caring’s exceptional leadership team, dedicated clinicians providing superior quality health care, and every employee working to exceed the expectation of referral sources, and most importantly, the patients they serve every day.

“We have consistently invested significantly in the tools and technology necessary for our staff to provide the absolute best care to those patients we are honored to serve.  We have the entire continuum of health care in the home and facility environment—home health care, palliative care and hospice care.”

“Our referral partners are confident in knowing that we understand their needs, and have trained clinical staff to exceed those needs specific to measured quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, seamless transitions, and avoiding un-necessary re-hospitalizations,” added Deary.

Great Lakes Caring will receive the Small Business Administration’s Entrepreneurial Success award for both Michigan and the Midwest Region at the Eighth Annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business Success event on May 3rd at the Lansing Center.  The award honors companies that have received SBA assistance and have grown from a small business to a mid-size or larger entity.  “SBA is honored to have provided financial support that helped Great Lakes Caring grow its business, create hundreds of jobs and employment opportunities in the region, and become one of the premier companies in the Midwest,” said Gerald Moore, SBA Michigan district director.  “William Deary and his entire team embody the qualities that make this company a true American business success story.”  Great Lakes Caring also received the SBA’s Small Business Person of the Year award for the Michigan District in 2003.

Great Lakes Caring recently placed in the top 25 percent of the country when it received the 2011 Home Care Elite designation, the only performance recognition of its kind in the home health industry.  In addition, the company has received numerous quality awards from Medicare, is a part of both Home Care 100 and the Inc. 5000 and has received Detroit Free Press Top Work Place Awards.
