Shelby Township resident Rita Molenda, (pictured left) was recently honored with Great Lakes Caring’s Annual Hospice Volunteer of the Year Award. She volunteers through Great Lakes Caring’s Clinton Township Branch and visits with patients at several different skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, wherever a patient calls home. Molenda, a Great Lakes Caring volunteer for 18 months, has donated more than 15 hours of her time each month visiting with patients, reading to them or helping record their life story. Megan Carolin, (pictured right) Clinton Township branch volunteer coordinator, said “There have been numerous times when Rita has made a notable impact on patients and families. There is a patient whom she visits who has shown signs of sadness and loneliness. Rita spends quality time with the patient and is able to redirect him to help him to find hope in his situation. Rita serves as an inspiration to all of those around her. Our hospice clinical team members have told me on numerous occasions how thankful they are to have her on our volunteer team.” For more information about Great Lakes Caring Hospice or to become a volunteer, visit GreatLakesCaring.com or call 586-468-8580.
