Great Lakes Caring Akron Hospice Office Earns Perfect State Licensure Survey Score
Great Lakes Caring Hospice is pleased to announce its successful completion of a deficiency-free state survey.
The Ohio Department of Health and Human Services for Medicare and Medicaid survey team conducts unannounced and random surveys of hospice organizations to determine if they are in compliance with state and federal regulations.
The state hospice survey was conducted this past June at the Great Lakes Caring Hospice office located at 1530 West Market Street in Akron, OH. The inspectors’ comprehensive four-day evaluation included areas such as clinical care, compliance with Medicare’s conditions of participation, and patient satisfaction. They reviewed patient records, policies, and programs, toured the facility, spoke with staff members and interviewed patients in their home environment.
“The score indicates the quality and professionalism of both our field and office staff who work together to ensure superior quality care is provided to our patients,” said Great Lakes Caring Ohio Vice President of Hospice Matthew Smith. “Without the quality care provided by the staff, it’s impossible to achieve a perfect score.”
“This type of survey is conducted every five years. Representatives from the Ohio Department of Health show up unannounced to ensure that we are complying with about 500 different regulations. Overall it is an all-encompassing process for the facility staff, and the process lasts several days,” added Smith.
He also acknowledged the support of the extended Great Lakes Caring Hospice staff for their role in assisting the Akron office with its perfect survey and in maintaining its quality care and patient-focused approach.
The Great Lakes Caring office in Akron provides palliative and hospice care to patients in skilled- and non-skilled facilities and private homes in 10 counties in Northeast Ohio.
